ESC offers a variety of standard sheet pile driving methods, such as impact driving, vibro driving and hydraulic pressing. The choice of technique will depend on the soil and its condition.
Harder soils should be driven with greater amplitude, while lighter soils require a higher impact force. SPT values should also be considered to select a suitable section.
Vibrations should be kept to a minimum during installation, which can be achieved using guide structures or waling. In some cases vibrations can be minimised by combining impact driving with a vibratory hammer.
In general, if soil conditions are not conducive to driving by impact, a combination of both techniques should be used. Some soft to medium soils may require a mixture of different methods to ensure that the required strength is maintained for the section being driven.
